The History of One For The Vets

My Name is Victor Barruzza and I am the General Manager at Cedar Hill Golf Course. I am hosting my annual “One For The Vets” golf tournament on November 1, 2021 that will benefit The Gary Sinise Foundation and Stoughton VFW Post 1645.

The Gary Sinise Foundation helps our veterans by providing specially adapted smart homes to America’s most severely wounded heroes & their families as well as home modifications, mobility devices, and adapted vehicles to injured, wounded, ill, and/or aging heroes from all military conflicts.

The Stoughton VFW Post 1645 works locally to foster camaraderie among our veterans, the military, our communities, and to advocate on behalf of all veterans

My father was in the Army and spent time in Vietnam on the front lines along with his 2 brothers. Growing up we never fully understood what he saw or had to deal with as he never spoke of it. I joined ROTC in school and started a path that was going to lead me into the Army. Operation Desert Storm was just beginning and there were talks about a potential draft. My father let me know in so many words that I would not be available for that at whatever measures necessary. I began to understand that there was a lot more to his background. He has since opened up and begun to heal. My younger brother joined the Navy recently and has been deployed to Iraq. I have always respected my father’s wishes that kept me out of the military but, have always had some guilt in not serving. This is my motivation for organizing the “One for the Vets” tournament.

There will be raffles and a live auction following golf. I hope that you are willing to make a donation of a raffle prize or a choose a sponsor package to help make this event successful and truly make a difference in the lives of veterans.
